The ITCS was established in 1990 to promote the careful study of time capsules throughout the world. The group is headquartered at Oglethrope University in Atlanta, Georgia, and its goal is to assist in the recovery and registration of time capsules.

The Crypt of Civilization

Oglethorpe University is home to the Crypt of Civilization - an ambitious time capsule sealed on May 28, 1940 and acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records (1990) to be 'the first successful attempt to bury a record of this culture for any future inhabitants..., The Crypt is to be opened on May 28, 8113 A.D.

 

Building an e-Timecapsule

The Internet has afforded a simple and efficient way of gathering data from multiple sources. Time capsules of this sort are referred to as e-timecapsules because they are electronic in format. The down side to an e-timecapsule is that various storage methods connected to electronic data are not reliable for long-term preservation.
